We often look at ‘before and after’ pictures when we are looking to ascertain a change. This could be in terms of ageing, after having used a product or after having a procedure done. This is especially true as far as cosmetic surgeries go, because that’s the best way to measure the desired results.
However, in this particular case, one must remember that having realistic expectations out of a cosmetic procedure is the best way to go about things. One must understand that we are born with a certain frame, and even plastic surgeries have limited scope to alter it. It certainly doesn’t mean that one can’t have desired results, yet, it’s best to understand what to expect out of any procedure before opting for it so that there’s no disappointment once it’s done.
Similarly, when it comes to cheek augmentation, one needs to conduct a thorough research, have a consultation with the doctor to understand what sort of changes they should expect, before going under the knife.
Many people are under the assumption that cheek augmentation also includes reduction of cheeks as well which is wrong. Cheek augmentation targets the cheeks and focuses on enhancing them. It also affects the size and shape of the face as a whole.
There are mainly two types of cheek augmentation procedures:
Invasive – This method is mainly a surgery where under the influence of local anaesthesia, the bone or skin tissue taken from other parts of the body is implanted surgically in the cheek bones making it enhanced.
Non-Invasive – In this method there is no surgery involved. It is mainly done by an expert cosmetic surgeon and with injectable fillers. There are certain fillers such as Sculptra which are injected directly into the cheeks to enhance and shape it.
What a person should expect?
Certain expectation are stated by the patient before the procedure itself where they mention how they wish their cheeks to be. There are also certain expectations which are post the procedure which come into light once the surgery is done.
Pain resulting from cheek augmentation procedure is comparatively low. The patient can expect swelling and bruising as well which is common for almost every surgery as such. The scars take around one to two months to completely fade away.
There is also a degree of numbness the patient might feel post the surgery. Most cosmetic surgeons mention that the numbness goes in a span of one to three months.
In many cases, the implants in the cheek swell to a great extent. This is mainly a result of tissue trauma in the cheeks. The cheeks will appear over augmented for quite some time but the actual results will reflect in a few months.
In a few rare cases, patients do not seem to be happy with the results of the surgery and the implants. In that case, they need to go through a revision surgery so that the implants can be rectified or the implant as a whole will be removed from the cheeks.
All in all, expectations of the patient are usually always met when this procedure is done by an expert cosmetic surgeon. Years of experience reflects in their work and they understand the needs of the patient as well. What one would need to keep in mind is to choose the right doctor so that best results can be achieved.
