Breast Augmentation
Well proportioned and shapely breasts are an asset to any woman. Small breasts can be enlarged by plastic surgery called breast augmentation surgery. This is done by using breast implants. Breast augmentation is the second most common cosmetic surgery performed on women. Breast enhancement using breast implants can give a woman more proportional shape and may improve self esteem.

Breast implants are high quality medical devises made with silicone which is a bio-compatible material that is used for many years in medicine. It is also used in artificial joint replacements, cardiac pacemakers, and syringes, in addition to hundreds of products that we come into contact with every day, including food, plastic products, clothing and even the furniture we sit on. Silicone is the best material because it is the least reactive, soft and durable. Long years of research and usage has proved them to be safe.
There is no evidence that breast augmentation bears any relationship to breast Cancer.
All breast implants are not alike. You can choose
• Size: from less than hundred cubic centimeter to more than 500 cc. most common sizes are 250-400 cc
• Type: Silicon filled/ saline filled- Both the implants are safe and effective. Saline implants are popular in USA and silicone in Europe and India. Any type can be used depending on patient and surgeon’s preference.
• Shape: Round/ teardrop: Round is used more commonly.
• Surface: Textured/smooth.
• Brand: Many international brands are available with different costs and warranties.

Step One: Consultation
if you have felt conscious about your flat chest, if you want to give up wearing padded bra the first step would be to fix an appointment with Dr. Priti. During your first visit all your questions will be answered personally by her. She will ask you about your specific requirements regarding size and will examine your breasts. In addition you will be asked about your medical history and about any current medications. You can actually see and feel the real implants and can try them inside your bra. You will also be given information brochures. You will also be prescribed a list of routine blood tests and X-ray to assess your fitness for anaesthesia.
Step Two: Preoperative Evaluation
If you feel comfortable about having your breasts enlarged with implants you can schedule a second appointment. This time you can get your test reports along with you and complete the process of choosing the correct size.

At this time you can bring along a friend, your husband or anyone else you want to. On the other hand if you do not want to inform anyone else or if you can go ahead on your own. Preoperation consent forms are filled and clinical pictures taken at this point of time. After this process appointment for surgery can be fixed.
Step Three: Surgery
You report at the hospital on the morning of surgery. Before taking you inside operation room the implant pocket will be marked on your breasts. Operation is under general anaesthesia and is pain free.
Step Four: After Surgery
After surgery there will be bandage and bra on your chest. You can drink water after 4 hours and have some snacks afterwards. You walk and have normal dinner on same evening.
Step Five: Recovery
You will need some assistance initially. Many women start light work in a week’s time. By the end of one month usually you are feeling quite normal and ready to resume all normal activities. Breasts look swollen initially but usually settle down 1-3 months.
